Request Committee Participation

Thank you for your interest in contributing to the important work of our committees.

Please review the following information before submitting your application.

1. PARTICIPATION

All individuals wishing to directly participate in standards development must submit a completed application form. (See link below)
Applicants will remain unseated until internal processes for tentative seating are completed by the SMC/ESC review committee.
Note—Filling vacancies and seating new committees is a fluent process across each year. Most applicants are not immediately seated but your application will remain active for at least three years. When it is time to fill vacant seats and due to needs of diverse experiences on each committee, applications are reviewed again including to fill a seat on a consensus body that may be different than that chosen in the application.

Committee member appointments are based on the following criteria:

  1. Relevant experience in the field or vantage point being represented.
  2. Technical expertise related to the committee’s subject matter.
  3. Ability to engage diplomatically and contribute to a consensus process.
  4. Consideration of committee balance and potential conflicts of interest.

You may revise the information you provided on the application at any time in the future using a link attached in an email that will be sent after submitting the application form.

2. APPLICATION STATUS

Applicants approved by the SMC/ESC review committee to sit on a committee will be informed that they have been tentatively added to a specific committee slate after initial review processes. If the applicant does not respond by the deadline provided in the communication, it will be assumed they do not accept the seat.

Note—Individuals accepting a seat are tentatively granted voting rights. However, overseeing committees can later object to an individual or the balance of interest groups.

Applicants not seated by the SMC/ESC review committee at this time:

  1. For Seating New or Repopulated Committees: Applicants not seated will be notified of their status within 90 days after an announced deadline for applying; and
  2. For Standing Committees: Applicants not seated because the standing committee is already engaged in deliberations will be notified of their status within 60 days describing that the committee is not open for seating at this time.

3. ABOUT PARTICIPATION.

While no committee member can be available for all activities, participation includes

  1. Regularly scheduled webinar meetings typically every 2 weeks when active;
  2. Staying abreast of current topics and voting to determine committee consensus;
  3. Agreement to abide by the Consortium Code of Conduct.
  4. Opinions expressed are to be based on your personal experience. Opinions expressed are not to be considered formal positions of an employer or all members of a stakeholder interest group you are seated to represent.

After about three years, it is intended that standing committees are refreshed/reseated.

4. CE CREDITS:

For those holding certifications provided by NRPP, each meeting attended counts for category 1 continuing education credits.

5. CONSORTIUM CONSENSUS BODIES (AT THIS TIME)

MEASUREMENT COMMITTEES

  1. Radon measurement standards. This committee is tasked to update, harmonize and improve MAH (homes); MAMF (multifamily buildings); and MALB (schools and large buildings).
  2. Radon test device quality assurance. This committee is tasked to update, harmonize and improve MS-PC (measurement system performance criteria); and MS-QA (measurement system quality assurance).
  3. VI measurement standards. This committee is tasked to create VI-MA (Vapor Intrusion Measurement and Sampling of Indoor Air and Sub-Slab Soil Gas); and VI-CSM (Conceptual Site Model for Vapor Intrusion)

MITIGATION COMMITTEES

  1. Radon/soil gas mitigation standards. This committee is tasked to update, harmonize, and improve SGM-SF (homes); RMS-MF (multifamily buildings); and RMS-MF (schools and large buildings).
  2. New construction design to mitigate radon/soil gas hazards. This standing committee is tasked to update, harmonize, and improve new construction standards that include CCAH/RRNC (homes) and CC-1000 (large buildings).
  3. Operation, Maintenance, and Monitoring (OM&M). This committee will be tasked to update, harmonize, and improve a new SG-OMM standard that establishes minimum requirements for long-term stewardship of soil gas hazards where responsibility for this need for belongs to someone other than building occupants.

WATER COMMITTEE

  1. Measurement and mitigation of radon in water. This committee is tasked to update, harmonize, and improve MW-RN (protocol for collection, transfer, and measurement of radon in water). This committee is also tasked to create a new ANSI/AARST designated as AARST RMS-W (mitigation of radon in water).
