Reducing Radon in New Construction of ANSI/AARST CCAH 2020 1 & 2 Family Dwellings and Townhouses 16 901.6 Fan start-up. ASD fans shall be activated upon initial installation in the ASD system piping and shall run continuously. 901.7 Fan selection. Fans installed in the ASD system shall be recommended by the manufacturer for radon mitigation. Such fans shall be designed and sealed by the manufacturer to minimize leakage of water and soil gas from the fan housing. SECTION 1001 ACTIVE SOIL DEPRESSURIZATION SYSTEMMONITORING AND OCCUPANT INFORMATION 1001.1 Systemmonitors required. Each ASD system shall be provided with systemmonitors to monitor fan performance and notify occupants of fan failure. The systemmonitors shall be connected to the fan piping and located indoors in an area where the monitors are readily observable by the occupants. Each ASD system shall include both: 1) Negative pressure meter, such as manometer type pressure gauge. 2) Fan failure notification by audible fan alarm or remote telemetry. 1001.1.1 Electrical Power. Systemmonitors that require electricity for indication of fan failure shall be on non-switched circuits separate from the circuit powering the radon fan. 1001.1.2 Battery Power. Battery operated monitors shall be equipped with a low battery-power warning feature. 1001.1.3 Automatic reset. Electrical ASD systemmonitors, whether visual or audible, shall be designed to reset automatically when power is restored after power outage.
