Table 4.3 4.3.1 Basic configuration Nominal inside pipe diameter Maximum size of Soil Gas Collection Plenum(s) per duct size 3 inch [7.6 cm] 2,500 square feet (232 m 2 ) 4 inch [10.2 cm] 4,500 square feet (418 m 2 ) 6 inch (15.2 cm) 10,000 square feet (929 m 2 ) 4.3.2 Credit allowance for inspected plenums If inspections in accordance with Sections 5.10.2 a nd 6.5 are con ducted and verify compliance with Sections 5 and 6 , the maximum size of Soil Gas Collection Plenum(s) for these duct sizes shall be: Nominal inside pipe diameter Maximum nominal size of Soil Gas Collection Plenum(s) per duct size 3 inch (7.6 cm) 3,500 square feet (325 m 2 ) 4 inch (10.2 cm) 6,200 square feet (575 m 2 ) 6 inch (15.2 cm) 14,000 square feet (1,300 m 2 ) 4.3.3 Credit allowance for airtight application If in addition to Section 4.3.2 the durable air barrier between soil gas and indoor air is virtually airtight (e.g., spray applied vapor barriers or other geomembranes intended to form homogenous closure), the maximum size of Soil Gas Collection Plenum(s) for these duct sizes shall be: Nominal inside pipe diameter Maximum nominal size of Soil Gas Collection Plenum(s) per duct size 3 inch (7.6 cm) 4,000 square feet (372 m 2 ) 4 inch (10.2 cm) 7,100 square feet (660 m 2 ) 6 inch (15.2 cm) 16,000 square feet (1,486 m 2 ) 4.3.4 Penalty for Non-Compliance (that results in inadequate plenum closure or inadequate gas permeable layers) Nominal inside pipe diameter Maximum nominal size of Soil Gas Collection Plenum(s) per duct size 3 inch (7.6 cm) 1250 square feet (116 m 2 ) 4 inch (10.2 cm) 2250 square feet (209 m 2 ) 6 inch (15.2 cm) 5,000 square feet (465 m 2 ) Any passive design 0 square feet (0 m 2 ) Regardless of cause (e.g., design constraints, poor coordination or misdirected installation), these maximum sizes in Section 4.3.4 for Soil Gas Collection Plenum(s) and duct sizes shall apply to result in additional systems if either: a) a continuous closed barrier between soil gas and airspaces within the building is not constructed or corrected to meet sealing requirements in Section 6 ; or b) gas permeable layers and soil gas Inle t s are not constructed to comply with Sections 5.5 and 5.7 . 4.3.5 Equivalent sizes Cross-sectional equivalent for inside pipe diameter is permitted regardless if achieved by multiple vent pipes. 4.4 Collective expanses — individual plenum size No less than 90% of any 4,500 square foot (418 m 2 ) slab or membrane expanse shall be vented by soil gas inlets that are joined to a soil gas vent system. 4.5 Joined plenums Multiple plenums joined from below or above a slab or membrane to a single soil gas vent system shall be permitted for plenums constructed with the same gas permeable layer specifications. To join multiple plenums: a) The configuration of each plenum shall comply with Table 4.3 regarding duct pipe sizing in relationship to the individual plenum size ; b) The configuration of each plenum shall comply with Sections 5.5 through 5.8.5 in re lationship to the connection of soil gas inlets fo r each gas permeable layer; and c) Exhaust pipe sizing in relationship to the combined size of all plenums joined to each soil gas vent system shall comply with Table 4.3 . 4.6 Joined soil gas vent systems Multiple soil gas vent systems shall be permitted to join a larger primary trunk exhaust pipe for connecting to a single exhaust location.
